One of my favourite things is to be asked to make a present and I loved sewing clothes for Teddy – my niece’s Teddy, as her Christmas present. I put together a mix of little outfits which were designed to mix and match, although I suspect that whether something matches is of no real concern to my niece. She’s a six year old with such character and determination that I’m quite sure her Teddy will be dressed in whichever outfit she thinks looks best with no thought to any particular colour or style conventions! She’s a special wee girl and I was honoured to be allowed to make the clothes for her Teddy!
One of the real downsides of moving up here is not seeing my niece and nephews so regularly. They have a genuinely strong bond with my children, helped probably by the years that I child-minded the older two, and hopefully we can keep that going over the years. I am lucky to have grown up very close to some of my cousins, even though we only saw them a handful of times each year, and they are very precious to me…………I would love for my own children to grow up with the same closeness to their cousins. I think we’re off to a good start and will work to keep it that way despite the distance between us. Katie announced a few days ago that M, who is just 14 months older than her, ‘is my best friend for ever and ever, we always share together and take turns, and be is my best friend and I love him’. That’s quite something from a wee girl who struggles to share as she’s so used to her bigger siblings letting her have whatever they want!
Wishing you a very Happy New Year and hoping that you have a wonderful 2015. I had hoped to be here sooner but life has been busy…..it seems to have taken me a little while to get into the swing of things this year, I’m not sure why but I haven’t jumped in full of enthusiasm as I usually would. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing, just not my usual approach to a new year. I have a lot of sewing on the go, and will try to share what I can when I can…..and when power cuts and snow storms allow (the weather up here has been, and is, truly wild….I wouldn’t be surprised if I had a call from school later today, or later in the week).
How about you, are you brimming with enthusiasm for 2015 or taking the slow-burn approach?
