Given that there’s several fairly headstrong people amongst us – I’m not going to name names, it would be a very long list! – decisions can take a fair bit of negotiation. Especially when there’s 6 children to be considered too.
One of the best walks we found was along the coast from the village of Balintore. It is a lovely little sleepy village which really looks as if it has forgotten to keep up with the modern world.
And the beach heading north from the village was pretty close to perfection.
Sand, rocks, sea, coastal grassland………..and we even had some sunshine. We have been seriously short of sun although it is slightly consoling to know that the same is true for almost everyone else in Britain.
We found an old winch for pulling up nets – we think for netting salmon but we weren’t certain. It looked like the netting is still active, with nets hanging out to dry on huge’washing lines’, lines of buoys marking nets in the water and boats ready to bring them in.

However, if we looked in the right direction the views were completely unspoilt and very lovely. And, perhaps best of all, we had several hours of sunshine!
