….hopefully it’ll be a bit quieter than it was on Saturday. Angus and his 4 friends, plus Finn and Islay, had such a good time for his birthday.
We built a den, cooked some marshmallows on a fire, ran around and then headed back to the house for some party food – all within 2 hours!
Its amazing the rate a bunch of 6 year-olds will work at. I really can’t imagine how their teacher manages to plan enough activities to keep them going for a whole day. They set about making the den with so much enthusiasm.
The marshmallow toasting was equally speedy and enthusiastic. If we’d had more than two packs I’m sure they’d have been gobbled up too.
Angus had requested a chocolate cake. Last year it was ‘a rocket’ and the previous year ‘an aeroplane with a dolphin on top’. I was mightily relieved with the chocolate request. Much less challenging. I decided to try a new recipe and spotted a Claire Macdonald one in The Scotsman called Double Dark Chocolate. Its probably more of a pudding style cake, its very gooey and rich, but we all really enjoyed it. You can find the recipe here. Something particularly handy about this one is that you can make it all in one pan providing you choose quite a big one to melt the butter and chocolate. Everything else can just be mixed up in there too. Less washing up – but fewer bowls to lick, so there is a bit of a trade-off!
I’ve taken this picture of mum’s kitchen before it was invaded by lots of little boys to show how well Beth’s cushion fits in. Isn’t it fabby?
